Now a lapsed Catholic, my upbringing instilled in me the fallacy that by being a “Good girl”, working hard and of course suffering, I would be rewarded. The song is a reflection on perseverance and taking control of your destiny when traditional faith proves insufficient. Your faith in yourself will save you. Since my recent adult ADHD diagnosis, I see this song in a whole new light. I kept going despite struggling with the obstacles that this threw in my way. However, I have also experienced the burnout that this state of determination can bring about. Maybe that's an idea for another song! This was one of my first collaborations with Michael Edwards, my co-writer, who came up with the piano riff intro while we were jamming.
